John Williams

“Diagnosed dyslexic from the age of eleven, John turned his brain to various creative activities.”

John started making stuff from a young age and during primary school made a series of comic strips about a chicken detective.  At eleven John got his first computer, an Amiga 500 with half a megabyte of memory and started animating on a retro package called ‘Deluxe Paint’.  After six months of messing about John had a couple of things shown on an early Saturday morning TV show.  From that point he was fascinated with bringing characters to life through stories.

Working with pencils, paper, wood, metal, plasticine, sand, high 8, super 8, oil paint.  John spent his teenage years creating all manor of 2D and 3D artwork and often used animation to bring these things to life.  At university (Alumnus of International Film School Wales) John worked with a number of other students on their animated films and created five shorts of his own.

One of the students who shared a similar passion was David Lea and they have worked on a number of projects together since then.  In 2000 John graduated from Wales with a short animated film titles 'Robots – The animated docu-soap' which was screened at over forty festivals world wide picking up ten awards. He then moved to London to work as an animator\director on a number of very creative videos and commercials.

After an intense few years of short format projects including, a handful of short films and animations using an assault of techniques, a fully kinetic shop window display, a mound of music videos and a couple of underground techno records, John opted to take some time out and spent 12 months working in school with children with learning difficulties.  During this time he developed a number of ideas and in-between working at the school has shot his latest film, the live action short ‘Hibernation’ which indicates a progressive step forward into longer format film.
