Televised opera The Rajah's Diamond (for which he won a Royal Television Award)
Peter Philips was a television and film designer for the BBC for over 20 years. He designed for a range of television programmes and was the production designer for films for television and theatrical release. For his design of a television opera The Rajah's Diamond he was awarded the RTS Achievement of Merit.
Peter then became Manager of television production Services for the BBC in Wales. he controlled about 250 staff including production design, costume design, make up and graphics. Also the support groups of stage and floor management, scenic services, wardrobe department and scenery workshops.
In the late 80s and 1990s the BBC was reorganised with in-house facilities moving to a freelance workforce to service programmes. Peter organised and implemented the changes in Production Services.
In 1993 Peter set up as a design consultant, examples of work undertaken were devising and running a theatre skills course for the University of Wales, Swansea (Adult Education) and theatre design as a part of learning development, the design if the Hay Festival and production design for films.
Peter has been a board member of BAFTA Cymru and RTS Wales Centre. He was and organiser for BECTU and has been a council member for the Chartered Society of Designers.
