Masterclass details:
Born in Margate, son of a Seaside Organist.

Dominic Savage graduated from the National Film and Television School in 1991 where he made four documentary films: Close Encounters of the Lunatic Kind, Doris, We’ll Be Back Next Year & Public Enemy. During his time at the NFTS he also directed music videos for The Stereo MCs, Public Enemy, and The Jungle Brothers.  He graduated with work of fiction that he wrote and directed entitled Fly Me to the Moon.

After graduating. Savage’s documentary work includes a number of films made for Channel 4; Seaside Organist for the Short Story strand, The Outsiders, nominated for a Grierson award, Rough Males & The Complainers, for Cutting edge. He has also made a number of films for the BBC including: Memories Are Made of This, for the Picture This strand.  He has since become one of the UK’s most prolific and highly regarded documentary drama makers working today. 

In 2000 Savage directed the film Nice Girl for BBC Drama winning the BAFTA Award for New Director Fiction 2001. Nice Girl was also nominated for Best Single Drama and Innovation at the BAFTA Television Awards 2001.

Savage directed the film When I Was 12 in 2001 for BBC Screen Two winning the BAFTA Award for Best Single Film. Following this he directed the highly acclaimed Out of Control in 2002 for BBC Screen Two winning the Michael Powell Award for Best British Film at the Edinburgh Film Festival 2002 and the Royal Television Society Award, and Broadcast awards for Best single Film 2003.

Love Hate is a powerful inter-racial love story set in the North of England; Uncompromising, trenchant and passionate, Love Hate is Dominic’s first feature film and the latest revealing look at contemporary Britain from him. Due to be released Nationwide in November 2005, the film premiered at the Berlin film festival in February.
