Julie Baines has been working in the film industry for over 20 years. In 1994 she set up the production company Dan Films, which specialises in independent films and co-productions and Variety Magazine named her one of the top ten producers to watch.
From 1999 to 2002, while still overseeing the production activity of Dan Films, Julie became Head of Production for The Film Consortium, one of the UK’s Lottery Franchises. Here she was responsible for a diverse range of feature films with budgets ranging from €2 m to €33 m, including 24 Hour Party People starring Steve Coogan and The 51st State starring Samuel L. Jackson.
Julie has recently produced Puffball by acclaimed director Nicolas Roeg (Don’t Look Now, Performance) which stars Kelly Reilly (Mrs. Henderson Presents), Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and Donald Sutherland (Don’t Look Now).
Her next project is set to go into production in the autumn of this year and she has a number of projects in her development slate for production in 2007/8.
Julie is a guest lecturer on various producing courses, in particular at the National Film and Television School and Goldsmiths College and is part of the new Skillset 100 scheme which is a database resource of 100 top industry professionals committed to sharing their knowledge and expertise through master classes, workshops and lectures. She is frequently asked to speak on panels at co-production conferences and festivals around the world ranging from IFP in New York to the Cologne Co-Production Conference, Dinard and Toronto Film Festival.
