Further information of AVPhD here

The workshop will focus on what might be distinctive about media practice research and how to create an academic environment to foster innovative research practice. What kind of work can be addressed through AVPhD? Who is it for? And how can it be distinctive from work pursued in the industry or in other parts of the academy?

The organisers have prioritised several themes which participants might
like to consider, but other topics will be equally considered:

  1. the relationship between the academy and the various media industries;
  2. new technologies and methods of investigation;
  3. the dissemination of work and the creation of channels of distribution and exhibition for audio-visual research;
  4. aesthetic and cultural investigations through audio visual research.

Call for Papers - deadline 28th February 2008

The workshop is interested in all approaches to PhDs in the Audio-Visual media broadly understood to cover everything from fine art and sonics to social anthropology using sound, documentary and fiction video/film as a means of investigation) and is inviting 20-minute research presentations in any mode of expression (ranging from papers, workshops, exhibitions, discussion groups, demonstrations, performances and so forth)from recent PhD graduates, current students, staff and workers in the Audio- Visual media on the above themes, or on any other aspect of the AVPhD process.

Panels will be shaped to accommodate the particular nature of the contributions and it is intended to find a format that places equal emphasis on presentation and response from delegates i.e. plenty of time for constructive comment and discussion.

There will be no charge for the conference although non-speakers will be asked to contribute a small amount towards food.

The full programme will be published in April.
