SSAW hosts Women in Film and TV event
On 29 April SSAW hosted an event at the Atrium inviting women working in film and TV in Wales as well as SSAW masters students and graduates. Kate Kinninmont, Chief Executive of Women in Film and Television (WFTV) gave a presentation followed by a Networking Coaching session led by Lyn Burgess, resident Life Coach for WFTV, and an informal networking session over a glass of wine and nibbles.
WFTV www.wftv.org.uk is the premier membership organisation for women working in the film, television and digital media industries in the UK. They are part of an international group with 10,000 members throughout the world. Their members come from all areas of the industry including: commissioning editors, financial directors, interactive content creators, lawyers, CEOs, writers, composers, directors, producers, DPs, editors, researchers, actors, presenters, and agents.
WFTV activities include running regular networking events; hosting an annual awards ceremony; organising events such as Power Breakfasts, Ivy Lunches, Meet the Commissioner, Premiere Screenings, Legal Workshops, and Panel Discussions on topical issues; offering ‘Workline’ a free, confidential employment advice helpline for everyone working in film, television and digital media in the UK; and providing training such as Business Training, Technical Training, Mentoring and Personal Development.
Their website is currently being redesigned to provide a platform for members to build an online profile, network with other members, and keep up to date with the latest industry issues of particular relevance to women as well as the latest WFTV news and events.
Those who attended the event at the Atrium expressed an interest in forming a WFTV group in Wales which would be supported by WFTV in London. For more information, and if you are interested in joining, please email sara@screenacademywales.org
