Ambitious student film lands Tourchwood’s Ianto as lead male!

An ambitious film being developed by two film students at International Film School Wales, has caught the eye of Tourchwood actor, Gareth David-Lloyd.

The script of Casimir Effect, a futuristic love story developed by BA Film & Video students, Lydia Wood and Gabriel Strange, was strong enough to entice the Tourchwood actor to take the lead role in the film.

Gabriel explained, “Casimir Productions is delighted to announce that Gareth David-Lloyd will take the lead role of Dr. Bob Cameron.  Gareth loves the script and is looking forward to working with the crew.  We are looking forward to bringing his unique talent and skill to the production. Gareth will also record a new song for the film with his band “Blue Gillespie.”

Assistance from Screen Academy Wales has helped the filmmakers with audition space and providing student crew to assist in the pre-production.  As a part of the Screen Academy Wales partnership, Lydia and Gabriel have made the most of workshops, masterclasses and networking events to help them in the development of Casimir Effect.

Lydia and Gabriel, who met in hale from North Yorkshire, transferred from their first choice of university to study at IFSW, attracted by the university’s position as a lead partner of Screen Academy Wales.

Lydia said: “We have taken advice and guidance from every masterclass we have attended, especially those that have concentrated on scrip development. We recently attended a scriptwriting course with Taps which has been particularly useful for our film as it dealt with multi-layered story-telling, essential where your story jumps between timelines.”

Casimir Effect will now move into pre-production and casting, as Gabriel explained: “We are hoping to break the mould of the majority of student films, employing professional techniques and state-of-the-art technology, crew and actors to bring the film to life.”
