Screen Academy Wales Supports Soundtrack: The International Film & Music Festival 2009! (Cardiff, 18th to 22nd of November 2009)
Soundtrack, the festival that had feet tapping, fingers snapping and eyes glued to the cinema screen, is back for its second year. The International Film & Music Festival returns to Cardiff this November for a five day extravaganza that promises lively debate, exclusive screenings and performances, and interactive workshops in venues across the city.
Screen Academy Wales is proud to support the festival’s second outing alongside a host of film and music industry sponsors, led by the Film Agency for Wales. SSAW students are encouraged to take part in the many free events!
Bunny & the Bull, Closing Night Movie - 20 FREE tickets up for grabs for SSAW Students and Graduates!
Soundtrack will welcome guests such as the legendary John Cale, Gruff Rhys, Julien Temple and Super Furry Animals to the event. For those of you unfamiliar with Soundtrack, the festival sets out to celebrate the unique relationship between music and the moving image through its many special events, including ‘The Music of Hammer Horror’, Julien Temple Q&A and John Cale In Conversation.
There will also be the Premiere of Gruff Rhys’ new movie Separado!, a Preview of Bunny and the Bull, and some great independent movies from around the world.
Screen Academy Wales has 20 free tickets up for grabs for the Closing Night Movie: Bunny & The Bull, on Sunday 22 November, 9.00pm at Cineworld, Mary Ann Street, Cardiff. The 2009 movie reunites the director of the cult comedy series The Mighty Boosh, Paul King, with comedy legends Noel Fielding, Julian Barratt and Richard Ayoade. Bunny & The Bull will be introduced by the director, who will join producer Mary Burke in an In Conversation following the screening. Tickets will be allocated to SSAW students and graduates, on a first-come, first-served basis so email marketing@screenacademywales.org to claim yours!

The Warp Films Session @ Soundtrack
Thursday 19th of November / 1.30pm / Norwegian Church, Cardiff Bay / Free
Warp Films has created some of the most exciting pieces of British film making in the last five years. Since starting in 2002, Warp has gone on to win numerous plaudits and awards. The multi award winning production company has been home to the likes of Shane Meadows, Chris Morris, Paddy Constantine, Chris Cunningham and Richard Ayoade, and spawned titles such as This Is England, Rubber Johnny, Dead Man’s Shoes, Donkey Punch, Bunny and the Bull and All Tomorrow’s Parties amongst others.
This special Industry session will see members of the Warp Films team discussing the history of the company, its current projects and its plans for the future as it expands into the European market. This is an exciting opportunity to hear what goes on behind the scenes of one of the UK’s most creative and ground breaking production companies. At this free session, you’ll hear about
- Warp’s history including development of their record label and film company
- What Warp look for in film projects
- How Warp perceive the current film landscape
- The Warp industry model and the uniqueness of the company
- How music is chosen for a Warp film
- How much influence Warp music have on their film soundtracks

The Soundtrack Composers Symposium in association with the Arts Council of Wales
Friday 20th of November / Time: 10.00 - 12.30 / Cineworld, Cardiff / Free
The Soundtrack Composers Symposium is a free event that will give emerging amateur composers and musicians an opportunity to learn about the routes and pathways in to composition for film and television in Wales, from experienced musicians and composers with years of experience working within those industries.
In association with the Arts Council of Wales, Soundtrack will host two of Wales most experienced composers as they discuss their experiences and routes in to the film and TV industry in Wales. John Rae of Machine Rooms Studios and John Hardy of John Hardy Music are both experienced and award winning composers for TV and Film. They will be joined by former Catatonia guitarist and songwriter Owen Powell, as they discuss their careers, the film and TV industries in Wales and the UK, the future of the composer in the multi platform digital age and answer related questions from the audience.
Following the symposium, attendees will be able to take part in a special Speed Mentoring Session, where both composers will be on hand give advice face to face.
