Have You Got Something To Say?
Student Panel Members Wanted for 2010!

In early 2009, SSAW created a new advisory panel made up of current students and recent graduates.  The aim of the panel is to comment on activities offered by SSAW, such as masterclasses, mentoring, bursaries and placements, and to help us improve the way we promote and administer these opportunities.
Nearly one year on, several of our panel members have graduated leaving gaps in the some courses, so we’re on the lookout for enthusiastic, passionate students to join the team.

We need current students from the following courses:

  • BA Media and Performance - CCI
  • MA Screen Acting
  • BA Set Design
  • BA Animation - CCI
  • MA Screenwriting
  • BA Film & Video - CCI

As a member of the Student Panel you can have your say on what we do, and how we do it, give feedback and make suggestions on improving your course, and act as a spokesperson for SSAW and for your fellow students. You’ll also get the opportunity to attend exclusive events such as networking with the SSAW Industry Panel.

You would be one of our main links to your fellow students – our ambassadors – and you would be called on to talk about SSAW when we are talking to our funders Skillset and the UK Film Council to get further funding.

What we need from you:

  • One evening every two months on a Tuesday, a meeting will be held between 7pm-9pm at various venues in Cardiff where we will discuss elements of the Screen Academy project, with a free drink to get things started.
  • Twice a year we would need you to help us with funding applications by coming to meet our funders and talking about how SSAW is affecting you/helping you on your course.
  • We’d need one of you to be nominated as a Chair person to represent the group when we need one voice.

What you get from us:

    • £20 towards BAFTA Cymru student membership, Shooting People membership or magazine subscription for 1 year.
    • Meetings for the Student Panel with key decision makers in the film community in Wales and the UK
    • Travel costs for getting to the meeting (within reason, no limos!)

What to do next:

We need to have at least one representative per course, so please respond by email by 14th January if you would like to be considered. Send us an outline of why you wish to join the panel, what you hope to gain by becoming a member, and a little about your course, your areas of interest and anything else you think we should know (A paragraph on each will be ample).

Email your expression of interest to marketing@screenacademywales.org by 5pm, 14 January. If you are selected to join the Panel, the first meeting of 2010 takes place on 19 January.
