SSAW Theatre, Film and Photography presentation of Chekhov's The Seagull
Dr Andy Smith's presentation of Chekhov's The Seagull will take place next week at the Riverfront Studio Theatre, Newport on 29 and 30 November and 1st December, starting at 7:45pm.
"The project is part of my current Practice-as Research on the post-dramatic actor and includes film sequences, still photography and soundscape alongside the live performance, " explained Andy.
The project is part funded by a Development Research Grant from the School of Art Media and Design. In the early stages of the rehearsal process, the cast were given an intensive two-week training session on adapting film performance with the Russian film and theatre director Vladimir Bouchler, part funded by the mentoring programme of the Skilset Screen Academy Wales.
The play is performed by year 2 and year 3 actors on the Performing Arts degree and combines different forms of visual and auditory media to explore contemporary debates surrounding ‘liveness’ and the electrification of the stage image.
The performan ce should be of interest to students and staff within the fields of Fine Art Installation, Photography, Film, Sound and Drama/Theatre.
Tickets are available from the Riverfront box office on 01633 656757 at the cost of £8/£6 concessions.
