Pre-entry Undergraduate

One of SSAW's core remits is to encourage wider support throughout UK for the aim of the UK Film Council and Skillset to deliver a more diverse film workforce. Members of under-represented groups are encouraged to follow SSAW courses through outreach activity and the provision of Skillset bursaries for study. Bursaries are funded by the Skillset Film Skills Fund.

Full guidance on eligibility and the application process will be available to download here soon. In the meantime, see below for information about the bursaries we have to offer.

If you would like to contact us regarding bursaries please email Sara Herritty.

The deadline for bursary applications for entry in 2008 will be 30 June 2008. We will contact those offered places on the courses listed below in April/May 2008 inviting them to apply.

Further information
SSAW are able to offer the following bursaries for 2008 entry students. Undergraduate pre-entry bursaries are available for the following courses:

BA Hons 3D Computer Animation (Swansea Institute of Higher Education)
BA Hons Animation (University of Glamorgan - formerly of Glamorgan Centre for Art and Design Technology)
BA Hons Animation (International Film School Wales, University of Wales, Newport)
BA Hons Film and Video (International Film School Wales, University of Wales Newport)
BA Hons Film and Video (University of Glamorgan)
BA Hons Media and Performance (University of Glamorgan)
BA Hons Performing Arts (International Film School Wales, University of Wales Newport)

These bursaries are for students who have applied for, and are eligible for, student support from the UK government as a home student.  Bursaries are only available to those students who are in receipt of, or will receive, the maximum maintenance grant for their domicile i.e. their home country of either Wales, England, Scotland or Northern Ireland.  Students must demonstrate a commitment to working in, and contributing to, the UK film industry after completing their studies.

There are a total of fifteen bursaries available for students across the seven SSAW undergraduate courses for 2008 entry.

The total value of each bursary is £3,000 with £1,000 paid during each of the three academic years.  This is paid by cheque in two instalments of £500 in October and February of each academic year.

Payment is made on the basis that the recipient continues to be enrolled on their chosen SSAW course, that their tuition fees have been paid and that they have satisfactorily completed all modules undertaken up to the time that payment is due.

The Bursaries are intended to cover course related costs which can include childcare costs.

Bursary recipients must agree to be ‘tracked’ by SSAW and provide information on any film-related activities (including awards, festival successes, employment and further training) as requested by them for up to 12 months after graduation.

Recipients who withdraw from, or fail, their course will receive no further funding from SSAW and may be asked to repay all or part of the monies received.
